Operating a trailer with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) exceeding 4,600 kilograms necessitates upgrading your current license to include a Code 20 Heavy Trailer Endorsement. This endorsement permits drivers to tow trailers of legal weight suitable for the towing vehicle, provided neither the trailer nor the towing vehicle is equipped with air brakes. If the trailer has air brakes, a Class 1 license is required.
